Coronel Barros Small Hydroelectric Power Project (SHP), Brazil

Construction of a run of the river small hydro plant connected to Brazil’s National Interconnected System (SIN), delivering renewable electricity that displaces fossil fuel generation and supports regional development

Project Type: Renewable energy, small hydro (run of the river)
Grid Connection: Brazilian National Interconnected System (SIN)
Installed Capacity: 4 MW
Technology: Two Bulbo turbines with Kaplan rotors driving two 3-phase synchronous generators (2,000 kVA, 3,360 rpm) with static excitation
Hydrology: 252 m head, 4.97 m³/s flow
Footprint and Flooding: 7.12 ha total flooding, with 5.12 ha previously flooded by the existing river bed; power density 56.2 W/m²
Key Infrastructure: 150.85 m concrete dam with 100 m Creager-type spillway, water intake, 356 m approach channel, loading chamber, engine room, tailrace, substation, reservoir; grid connection point approx. 50 m from plant via existing distribution cables
