Project Midgard Forestry and Conservation Carbon Project, Paraguay
FSC-certified afforestation and reforestation programme converting degraded cattle-grazing land into a mosaic of commercial eucalyptus plantations and new conservation forests, designed to deliver long-term carbon sequestration alongside biodiversity corridors, local jobs, and community development.
Standard: Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) with CCB label and SD Vista
Location: Zona Central around and south of Asunción, in proximity to the River Paraguay
Project Area: ~70,000 ha targeted acquisition of degraded pastureland
Plantation Area: ~50,000 ha mixed-rotation eucalyptus plantations (commercial timber, pulp, biomass, biochar/charcoal)
Conservation Area: ~20,000 ha new conservation forests and riparian connectivity corridors
Indicative Duration: 60-year carbon cycle, with intention to maintain forest cover in perpetuity (100+ years)
Estimated Climate Impact: ~7.9 million VCUs over a 60-year cycle after buffer deduction (preliminary estimate)
Community and Biodiversity: Employment and capacity building, infrastructure improvements, and conservation management in partnership with an experienced local NGO (Fundación Moises Bertoni referenced)
